The Town of Oliver’s kicked off a project with local business partners, residents, the South Okanagan Chamber of Commerce, Oliver Tourism Association, Oliver Osoyoos Winery Association, and other partners to develop an Economic Development Strategy.

When completed in Spring 2020, the Strategy will provide a detailed roadmap to achieve priority economic development actions identified and prioritized by project partners. It will also provide a framework for the Town to more effectively evaluate new opportunities when they arise.

The Strategy will determine where limited staff time and economic development funds should be targeted and help further develop important relationships with regional economic development partners and help better align and coordinate economic development planning and development efforts in Oliver and the surrounding region.

So far, we’ve put together a Community Profile which provides a ‘snapshot’ look at local economy of the Town of Oliver, as of spring 2019. This snapshot provides a common set of facts about the local economy for all stakeholders and partners. It includes data and analysis on population and demographics, educational attainment, income levels, development and housing, commuting, labour force and employment, and the performance of key economic sectors. identifying assets, trends and priorities.  It’s available here.

This summer, we’re asking residents, business owners, and visitors to our community, “Where do we want to go?”  We want to start building a shared vision, begin identifying ideas to achieve the vision, and developing clear community economic development objectives for the Town of Oliver. And we want your help in doing this.
